Statement

What is art? Art is a visual creation that provokes an emotion. Art can produce a positive or negative response.

I heard someone say once "a painter paints, but an artist produces art with anything that passes through their hands." This comment affected my thinking and twenty years ago I challenged myself to abandon the flat surface and enter the world of 3-D expression.

After all, what is a painting? It is fabric with paint applied to its surface. If you were to take a famous painting (worth a million dollars) and remove the ornate frame, the staples, and the stretcher, what are you left with? Is that painted piece of cloth still worth a million dollars? Is it still seen as a masterpiece? What if you were to take the art off the walls and out of the galleries? Is a masterpiece still a masterpiece if it is attached to a jacket, or a pillow, or a chair, or embedded in a counter, or laminated to the floor?

My art is about going to another level. I create a piece of flat art, but then I challenge myself to keep creating. My art continues where a painter stops. Interactive art lives among us, it interacts with the world that stimulated its birth.

I strongly believe that PURE ART stands alone; only the laymen require an expensive frame to denote the art's worth.
